President Carter’s standby gasoline rationing plan survived its final congressional challenge Wednesday as both House and Senate voted to allow it to become law. Israel’s Parliament over whelming approved legislation Wed. declaring united Jerusalem to be the nation's capital, defying international protests that the law threatens to derail the Mideast peace process. The three convicted murderers who strolled from a Georgia prison’s death row were recap tured early Wednesday in North Carolina in a rural Mecklenburg County house. The body of a fourth convicted killer who escaped with the group was fished out of a nearby lake. He had been beaten to death. Six young ladies have entered the Miss Columbus Pageant thus far. They are Mandy Ashley, Cheryl Clontz, Leah Covil, Jennifer Fisher, Sharon Marlowe and Beverly Ramsey. Polk Central Boosters Club The Polk Central Boosters Club will meet Monday, Aug. 4th at 7 p.m. at the school. The new officers for the year are: Pres., Doris Davis; Vice Pres., Randolph McDaniel; Sec., Virginia Denton; Treas., Carolyn Arledge. All parents and friends of Polk Central athletics are invited. Raise $1200 Polk County has reached its goal in raising funds for Gov. Jim’s Hunt re-election campaign. Harold Burrell, co-chairman said that $1200 had been raised. Children’s Threatre The colorful, exotic and delightful Vagabond Children’s Theatre production of “Land of the Dragon", will have two performances this weekend at Flat Rock Playhouse. They are scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 a.m., and again Sunday afternoon at 2:30, August 2 and 3. This presentation is aimed to please children of all ages. General admission is $2. Kristen and Jason Lott, have returned from a visit with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H Allen and Mr. and Mrs. James E Lott in Scotch Plains, N.J. Kristen, 7 yrs. old and Jason 4'2 yrs. old flew from Asheville Airport to La Guardia and returned alone. They are the children of Mr and Mrs. Charles "Chuck" Lott of Tryon. Lynwood Thompson of San Francisco, Calif, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allan Pruette of Tryon. Mr Thompson, who was reared in Tryon, was a member of the Episcopal Church Choir which was in Wednesday’s Bulletin. He was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Tryon High School and the University of North Carolina. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs J T. Landrum Lions Meet Tuesday The Landrum Lions Club will meet Tuesday at the Landrum Civic Center. After the business session, the club will lour the Landrum Medical Center for a close look at its facilities and how it serves the community.
